The 2018 Diverge E5 is a bike designed for adventure on every ride, no matter whether it’s your morning commute or an epic weekend exploration.
The frame has been completely redesigned so it’s better suited than ever to mixed terrain riding, from pristine tarmac to off-road gravel tracks. Tyre clearance was the biggest concern on previous models so we put that at the top of our priorities. The 2018 Diverge E5 comfortably accommodates 700x42mm tyres while still leaving plenty of space for mud to fall away from the frame and fork. Minimising weight was a key focus too, so taking some cues from the development of our Roubaix, we built the frame from newly developed E5 Premium aluminium. This material is light, stiff and durable, making it ideal for intense efforts and tough terrain.
In designing the frame, we opted for our brand new Open Road Geometry over traditional cross geometry. Far from another befuddling piece of marketing jargon, Open Road Geometry was developed especially for the new Diverge. Think of it as a road version of modern trail bike geometry. Its characteristics include predictable steering and playful handling, thanks to its low bottom bracket, slacked-out head tube, short chain stays and shorter wheelbase. The new Diverge E5 is perfectly equipped for fun on the dirt, but also road performance.
Finally, with its adventure credentials in mind, we also incorporated a new version of out Future Shock suspension into the Diverge frame. You’ve seen it on the Roubaix, now it’s here on the Diverge to soak up lumps on the road less travelled. The principle is simple – Future Shock keeps the wheelbase of the bike the same length, even when you hit a bump, so the handling continues to act the way you expect. This means no understeer or sloppy handling, even when you’re slinging it into the turns. Going one step further than the Future Shock introduced to the Roubaix, the Diverge features a progressive spring, which makes it perform better on off-road sections where stiffer suspension is often required.
To add to its versatility, we boosted this Diverge with three mounts for water bottles, plus places to attach racks and guards, making it equally adept at long trips and short spins. The adventure-ready mixed terrain Diverge E5 frame is equipped with Shimano Claris shifting, hassle-free mechanical disc brakes and strong Axis Sport Disc wheels wrapped in Espoir Elite tyres.
Our Premium E5 aluminum frameset features our comfortable, yet confidence-inspiring, Open Road Geometry. Front & rear thru-axles are also included, making this Diverge the ultimate tool for your next adventure.
The lightweight FACT carbon fork is plenty stiff, aiding in handling, rigidity, and an overall light weight.
The Shimano RS200, with 46/34T gearing, provides precise shifts between rings, and makes it easier to spin up those leg-burning climbs.
