First shown at Eurobike 2015 for the first time we presented to the world our latest addition to our already wide range of Q-Rings: the Qarbon chain ring, crafted from 7075-T6 CNC´d aluminum and 3K woven high modulus carbon fiber. A real COMPOSITE product! By definition, a composite material is made of two or more constituent materials. A phenomenon called a "paradox of materials" shows that each of these materials is improving its own properties when combined in a composite material. An easy example to explain this paradox is the most commonly used material composition used in the bicycle industry: carbon fiber. Fragile raw carbon fiber filaments are held in place and protected by a matrix system, many times made of epoxy resin, which allows the fibers to become a powerful load carrier. Brittle and weak plastic-based materials used as a resin system become stronger and stiffer thanks to the reinforcement of the carbon fibers. The Qarbon chain ring offers all 5 Optimum Chainring Position (OCP) adjustments already present in our existing Q-Rings.
Carbon is designed to work with all 9, 10, and 11-speed drivetrains.
It is available in 110 BCD and offers 3 versions: 53, 52, and 50 teeth.
Carbon can be combined with any 110 BCD inner ROTOR 5 arm chainring.
The carbon fiber used in a smart way
Carbon fiber is ideal to improve weight and stiffness. A 3K woven, high modulus carbon sheet is bonded on the outside of the chainring reinforcing the chain ring´s structure. Carbon fibers´ structural properties allow for a more aggressively machined aluminum section in comparison with a conventional aluminum chainring. At the same time, the stiffer carbon fiber sheet is increasing lateral stiffness and improving shift quality, which depends upon other factors, like bottom bracket shell stiffness as well as chain ring stiffness. The result is an 8% lighter chain ring with 20% increased stiffness – and a beautifully looking chainring.

We rely on our precise CNC production techniques to manufacture our aluminum chain ring teeth and shift gates in our in-house production facility in Madrid. This allows us to maintain our well-known, precise shifting performance for all drivetrains on the market without compromising performance throughout the lifetime of the Quarbon chainring. The chain plus debris have little impact on our teeth profile – something full carbon fiber chain rings suffer from.
