The organic (resin) compound has a high static friction coefficient for strong initial bite, keeps braking smooth and quiet for everyday riding, and works in both dry and wet conditions. It's asbestos-free, and the DIY set includes a spring and retaining pin where the caliper needs them, so it's a straightforward like-for-like swap.

Other calipers, including SRAM road calipers, use different Alligator pad shapes. New pads need a proper bed-in period, and have your BOTS mechanic fit them and check rotor condition, since a worn or contaminated rotor will spoil new pads.
