Marin DSX 2 (Clay Orange)
740693001
A rigid gravel bike for the rider who wants a carbon fork's road feel with a wide-tyre, bikepacking-ready aluminium frame underneath it, stepped up with a wider-range 12-speed drivetrain for riders who want more gearing headroom.
Overview
The DSX 2 sits on the same Series 3 DSX 6061 aluminium platform as the rest of the DSX range - tapered head tube, internal cable routing, flat-mount disc brakes and a 142x12mm thru-axle - paired with a full-carbon fork that takes the edge off road vibration and small hits far better than an alloy fork at this price point. It's the step-up trim in the DSX line, built around a wider-range drivetrain rather than a different frame.
It runs a Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain with a 42T chainring and a huge 10-51T cassette, giving noticeably more low-end climbing gear and top-end spin-out room than the DSX 1's 10-speed setup, Shimano BR-MT201/R300 hydraulic disc brakes on 160mm flat-mount rotors, and WTB Riddler 700x45 tyres for confident rolling across hardpack, loose gravel and broken tarmac alike. Mudguard and rack mounts keep commuting and light touring duty on the table.
This is the bike for a rider who wants the DSX platform's comfort and versatility but with a wider gear range for steeper climbs or heavier loaded riding - someone who's decided the extra cassette range is worth the step up from the DSX 1.
Why You'll Like It
A carbon fork at an aluminium-frame price
The full-carbon fork smooths out road vibration and small hits more effectively than an alloy fork, giving a noticeably calmer ride on rough gravel and broken tarmac.
A genuinely wide gear range
The 42T chainring paired with a 10-51T, 12-speed cassette gives both a very low climbing gear and a usable top end, a wider spread than the DSX 1's 10-speed setup offers.
Shimano hydraulic braking you can trust
Shimano BR-MT201/R300 hydraulic disc brakes on 160mm flat-mount rotors give strong, consistent stopping power that holds up over long descents.
Wide tyres that handle the unexpected
WTB Riddler 700x45 tyres roll efficiently on smooth gravel and tarmac but have enough volume for looser, rougher sections without feeling out of their depth.
Ready for the long haul
Mudguard and rack mounts mean this bike can be set up for a wet-weather commute or a lightly loaded tour without hunting for adapter-based workarounds.
Who Is It For?
The DSX 2 suits a rider who wants the DSX platform's all-round gravel comfort but expects to ride steeper climbs or carry more load than the DSX 1 is geared for - the wider-range 12-speed cassette is the main reason to choose this trim over its sibling.
In India, that fits a weekend gravel rider tackling hillier backroad routes, or a commuter who wants a single bike that handles potholed city roads during the week and longer, hillier gravel routes on the weekend. The wide tyre clearance and mudguard mounts also make it a realistic monsoon-season commuter.
It's also a solid platform for a rider planning a loaded bikepacking trip with real climbing, where the extra low gear on offer here matters more than it does on flatter terrain.
Good to Know
The 27.2mm seatpost is dropper-compatible, so adding a dropper later for rougher descents is a straightforward upgrade rather than a frame-limited one. The flat-mount brake standard and thru-axle hub spacing are current, widely supported standards, which keeps future wheel and brake part sourcing simple.
