Merida Big.Nine 100 IV1 (Metallic Black/Grey)
4711256490786
A 29er hardtail for riders stepping into proper trail riding who want hydraulic disc confidence and a genuinely wide 9-speed range, without the price tag of a premium groupset.
Overview
The Big.Nine 100 is Merida's entry point into its 29er hardtail family — an aluminium TFS IV frame built around fast-rolling big wheels, paired with a lockable air-sprung fork that keeps the ride efficient on smoother ground and forgiving when the trail gets rough.
It's equipped with a Shimano CUES 2x9 drivetrain for a genuinely wide gear range without the complexity of a 1x setup, Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes for consistent stopping power in Indian monsoon conditions, and tubeless-ready wheels wrapped in Maxxis Rekon Race tyres for a fast-rolling, low-maintenance setup.
It makes the most sense for a rider taking their first real step into trail and fire-road riding — someone who wants a bike that handles weekend singletrack confidently without demanding a premium budget.
Why You'll Like It
A fast-rolling 29er setup
Big 29" wheels and Maxxis Rekon Race tyres hold speed well and roll over rough ground more easily than smaller-wheeled hardtails.
A lockable 100mm air fork
The Suntour XCR32 fork's lockout firms the front end up for efficient climbing or tarmac sections, then opens back up for the descents.
A genuinely wide 9-speed range
Shimano's CUES 2x9 drivetrain pairs a 36-22T crank with an 11-36T cassette, giving an easy gear for steep climbs and a real top end for flat stretches.
Confident hydraulic disc braking
Shimano MT200 2-piston brakes bring consistent, low-maintenance stopping power whatever the weather.
Tubeless-ready from the factory
The Merida Comp CC II rims are tubeless-ready, so going tubeless for better puncture resistance and lower pressures is a straightforward upgrade.
Who Is It For?
The Big.Nine 100 suits a rider who's ready to move beyond a basic hybrid into proper off-road territory — someone drawn to weekend trail rides, fire roads, and light singletrack who wants a bike that won't hold them back as their riding develops.
For Indian riders exploring trails around the city on weekends or tackling mixed tarmac-and-dirt commutes, the wide gearing range and reliable disc brakes make it a genuinely capable all-rounder rather than a bike you'll quickly outgrow.
Good to Know
- Use the fork's lockout lever on smooth tarmac or fire-road climbs to keep pedaling efficient, and open it back up before the trail gets rough.
- The wheels are tubeless-ready — going tubeless (tape and valves not included) is worth considering for fewer pinch flats and lower rolling resistance off-road.
- A quick post-ride wipe-down of the fork stanchions and drivetrain keeps everything running smoothly between services.
