Merida Big.Nine 15 (Blue/Black)
4710949831516
An entry-level 29er hardtail for riders taking their first step into mountain biking, with a genuinely wide 3x8 gear range and hydraulic disc brakes at an accessible price.
Overview
The Big.Nine 15 is Merida's entry point into its 29er hardtail family — a double-butted TFS aluminium frame built with an upright, comfort-focused geometry rather than a racy one, designed specifically for riders new to mountain biking.
A Shimano Tourney 3x8 drivetrain gives a wide 24-gear range that makes steep climbs manageable, an SR Suntour XCT fork smooths out rough ground, and Power DS-100HT hydraulic disc brakes bring dependable stopping power that's rare at this price point.
It makes the most sense for someone buying their first proper mountain bike — a rider who wants to explore fire roads and easier trails without a steep up-front investment.
Why You'll Like It
A genuinely wide 24-gear range
The Shimano Tourney 3x8 drivetrain gives an easy gear for steep climbs and a proper top gear for flat stretches, so you're never caught out by terrain.
Hydraulic disc brakes at an entry-level price
Power DS-100HT brakes bring confident, low-maintenance stopping power that many bikes in this price range don't offer.
A fast-rolling 29er wheel size
Big 29" wheels roll over rough ground more easily and hold speed better than smaller-wheeled hardtails.
A comfort-focused riding position
The TFS frame's upright geometry keeps longer rides comfortable, rather than putting you in an aggressive, racy position.
A durable double-butted aluminium frame
Merida's TFS aluminium is double-butted and technoformed for genuine long-term durability.
Who Is It For?
The Big.Nine 15 suits someone buying their first real mountain bike — a rider who wants to explore fire roads, easier trails and weekend off-road rides without committing to a premium budget straight away.
For Indian riders starting out on mixed terrain around the city or looking for a dependable weekend trail companion, the wide gear range and hydraulic disc brakes make it a genuinely capable starting point rather than a bike you'll outgrow in a season.
