I recently replaced the stock brake pads that came with my Triban RC 120 road bike with these. This was necessitated due to the upgrade of my tires from 700-28C to 700-38C as I wanted to convert my road bike to a touring bike. So after putting in the high volume tires and replacing the brake pads, I find that the stopping power has lessened actually. I do not know if this is because of the high volume tires which are almost twice as heavy as the 28C tires or because these pads are indeed not as good as Shimano brake pads. Either way, I think these pads are nothing to be excited about
I had the original brakes that came with my Triban 120 for about 10k km and they were poor. Especially in the wet, they were absolutely ineffective.
Changed to these dual compound Kool Stop and my feeling is that these pads are 50% more effective than my original ones in dry. Not experienced them in wet as yet.
Koolstop Salmon are a good pair of replacement pads - I changed from the OEM pads (R539) as they required a good amount of effort to apply.
These require slightly less amount of effort to apply, I was expecting more. Stopping is better than OEM, just wished it required less effort to apply. Make no mistake, they are better than OEM.
Where these shine are in wet and semi wet conditions - The stopping is really good.
Would I buy them again - not sure, Maybe!
